Celeste Ptak, PhD
Dr. Celeste Ptak serves as the Director of the Proteomics Core Facility and as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Iowa. An analytical chemist by training, she brings experience in biological mass spectrometry, proteomics, and collaborative scientific support. Her career began in the renowned Hunt Laboratory at the University of Virginia, where she developed a strong foundation in analytical biochemistry and proteomics under the mentorship of leaders in the field. She continued to refine and expand her skills during her time at Cornell University, contributing to a highly versatile proteomics and metabolomics facility that supported a supporting a diverse research community.
Dr. Ptak’s work has contributed to the development and application of methodologies spanning phosphopeptide enrichment, glyco‑ and lipid‑focused mass spectrometry, quantitative proteomics, and analyses of protein structure and function. These efforts reflect a long‑standing commitment to rigorous, innovative analytical approaches. Her work has supported research across areas including environmental microbiology, lipid chemistry, cell migration, and virology, strengthening her understanding of the varied analytical needs encountered in modern proteomics.
